EVX100 electric vehicle charge-point adaptor
Used with Megger MFT-X1 multifunction installation testers, the EVX100 adaptor provides all the functions needed for automated and manual testing of single- and three-phase Mode 3 electric vehicle charge points rated at up to 22 kW. Unlike other adaptors, the EVX100 mounts directly onto the MFT, which means it provides a fully integrated solution that doesn’t need inconvenient interconnecting cables.
Another unique benefit is that the EVX100 is directly controlled by the MFT-X1, which makes it easier and faster to use. In addition, direct control reduces the possibility of making incorrect test selections. The EVX100 also confirms that the mode set on the charger is correct for the test being performed.
To make testing even more convenient, the EVX100 offers automated testing, which means that you will no longer have to manually cycle the charge point through numerous CP states every time a test trips a protective device such as an RCD or RDC. As protective devices are often fitted in locations at a considerable distance from the charge point, this feature can potentially save a lot of walking and valuable time.
The EVX100 is powered by a high capacity internal battery, which can be recharged quickly via a standard USB-C charging port. This means you won’t need mains cables with various types of plugs. Just two charger connectors – Type 1 and Type 2 – will almost certainly cover all of your testing requirements, with type 2 supplied as standard. And, if you’re a user of CertSuite Installation software, you can produce customised test certificates in real-time with just a couple of clicks.
EV charger does not switch to State C
During testing, the EV Charger will be switched to different modes A, B and C in an automatic sequence. This is indicated by the Charger State displayed at the bottom of the screen and the Voltage mode displaying the live voltage. Failure to enter mode C is likely due to the charger being connected to a network or back-office. The charger may need to be enabled with a electronic key or by credit card.
No control of the EV Charger on a tethered lead
Ensure the EVX connector is inserted fully to the thethered lead connector. Connector design is such that the connection only has a couple of millimeters of contact.
EV charger does not switch on
The EV charger should switch on automatically when the instrument is switched on. The power button on the top of the EVX is only to test the battery status.
The EVX should flash a green LED every 10seconds. If not, the EVX may need to be charged.
EV Charger Trips during loop impedance test
EV Charger Trips during loop impedance test
EV charger RDC not tripping during test
Check the MFT-X1 is correctly set to EV A/RDC or EV A/B on RCD testing Hotkey 2.
EV charger fails to reset after the RCD trip test
Check the charger has power and is not connected to the back office network. This can prevent a charger from resetting.
EV charger fails to reset after the RCD trip test
Check the charger has power and is not connected to the back office network. This can prevent a charger from resetting.
Why can’t I select Insulation testing with the EVX100
The EVX100 disables the insulation test as it is not necessary to perform an insulation test on the socket of an EV charger. Indeed it can damage the RCD or RDC protection devices.
Will I be able to carry out the full range of tests needed for fault finding as well as for certification with the EVX100?
Yes, the EVX with an attached MFT-X1 provides all of the tests needed to check every aspect of charge point operation without the need for additional equipment.
Can the EVX100 be left permanently installed on the MFT-X1?
Yes for EV Charger testing. Disconnect when testing other electrical installations. For standard electrical testing the unit is removed to access standard test lead connections
Does the automatic cycling after an RCD or RDC trip work with every type of charge point?
Yes it will. However chargers that are connected to back-office systems will need to be isolated before testing commences to ensure they reset after a tripping test. This is the same as a manual EV charger adaptor.
Can the EVX100 be used with any other type of installation tester other than the MFT-X1?
No, the EVX100's advanced features depend on a direct connection to the MFT-X1, so it won’t work with any other type of installation tester.
Will my existing MFT-X1 work with the EVX100?
Yes. The MFT hardware needs no modification. Just update the firmware which is available free of charge from the Megger web site. This will also add any additional features that are available in addition to the EVX100 functionality.
