ATEX/IECEx Intrinsically Safe Keyboard - Armadex Ex BT-Key-02

.

Overview

ATEX and IECEx certified for Zone 2 and 22 / Class I Division 2.

The Armadex Ex BT-Key-02 is a rechargeable Bluetooth keyboard based on the iKey BT-870-TP. It is compatible with Windows, iOS and Android, which means it can be paired with iPads, iPhones, desktop PCs, laptops, Android tablets and Android phones. Ease of use is one of the key elements of this keyboard: pairing takes a single button press and completes in under 30 seconds on any of these devices. The keyboard is also ETL certified for the North American market.

What are the uses of an explosion proof keyboard?

This keyboard is certified for use in ATEX/IECEx Zone 2 and 22. In Zone 2/22 there is a minimal risk that an explosive gas atmosphere is present during normal operation — the outdoor area of an oil refinery or a ventilated battery room are typical examples. Regular non-ATEX equipment may not be used in any ATEX zone, because such devices can act as a source of ignition and cause an explosion. Paired with a wireless ATEX device, the Ex keyboard lets workers operate safely in Zone 2/22 locations.

Another popular use for the Armadex keyboard is the Cobic-Ex F112 LT explosion proof laptop configuration — the world's only available ATEX laptop for use in ATEX/IECEx Zone 2 and 22. It consists of the Ex BT-Key-02, a special mounting bracket and the Getac F110-Ex G6.

Look and feel

The ATEX keyboard is a genuinely compact model, measuring 30.5 cm wide and 19.5 cm deep. Units are all black, with white printing on the keys and blue printing for the Fn-key functions. At 4.5 cm thick they are rugged, sturdy devices. The feet are made of rubber so the keyboard will not slip on most surfaces, and they are not angled, so the keyboard lies flat.

The keyboards are lightweight and easy to carry. Combined with the compact body, this makes them practical for employees to use on the move — particularly useful alongside an ATEX tablet or phone.

During normal use the keyboard does not collect dust or moisture between or under the keys, and it is very easy to clean: simply wipe it with a damp (not wet) cloth. Cleaning, charging and other maintenance must always be carried out outside the hazardous area.

Mounting the keyboard

On the back of the Ex BT-Key-02 you will find an optional magnetic mount and a VESA mounting pattern. This is ideal for using the keyboard in a fixed position or in any type of vehicle.

Battery life

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery is combined with several power saving features to deliver the longest possible runtime. Sleep mode engages after approximately 10 seconds, ensuring the battery does not drain while the device is idle. In sleep mode the keyboard is held in a low power state so it can be brought back quickly — pressing any key wakes it. It is advisable to use a key that will not interfere with programs running on your computer; Caps Lock works well in most cases.

Expected battery life under average use is three weeks.

Wireless functionality

A Bluetooth connection can be established and used over a maximum distance of 10 metres (30 ft) between the Ex keyboard and the paired device. The signal reconnects automatically once you move back within range of the host device. If reconnection fails, pair the devices again.

Signal LEDs

The explosion proof keyboard carries several signal LEDs indicating: low battery, charging mode (never charge the device inside an ATEX zone), Scroll Lock (which allows scrolling without a mouse using the arrow keys), Num Lock, Bluetooth, power on/off and Caps Lock.

Warranty

The ATEX keyboard comes with a one year warranty. Defective items are shipped to Armadex for inspection. If the product is found to be defective due to a manufacturing error, the keyboard is replaced free of charge. Units that fail under normal use conditions are also replaced.
